The sun in Greece is one of the main attractions for any visitor but especially those who live in more dark and more gloomy countries.
But regardless the fact that the sun in Greece is providing people with alot of vitamin D and a hell of a good mood, it is very dangerous if you do not respect its power.
In Greek summertime, temperatures can reach or surpass 40 degrees Celsius (104,0 F) and in combination with the excessive suhshine and dust, it creates a very difficult and unpleasant cocktail. So, when we go out (especially at noon) we always take some precautions.
- We wear a hat. Not the DJ one that you wear backwords, a proper one.
- Also, sunglasses. In Greece sunglasses is not an accessory but a necessity.
- We have a bottle of water with us, which we frequently sip from.
- We use sunblock.
- We take short cold showers a few times per day.
- We wear light clothes with bright colors.
- We eat alot of fresh fruits (like melons) and vegetables (like cucumbers).
- If we feel dizzy, we search for a shade and unbutton any button on us and untie any belts, ties etc.
- We avoid the alcohol consumption when we have to walk in long distances.
- And if we plan to go hiking in a lovely yet remote Greek landscape we never, never, NEVER, go alone.
If we follow these simple advices, we will enjoy the Greek sun to the maximum without worrying about any nasty side effects. And have great vacation!!!
