Greek language is difficult, by default. It becomes more difficult when names of streets are written in maps with latin caracters. As if this is not enough, those who name the streets (exactly like those who name their children), recycle the same 50 names with a few exceptions.
And i am not done. All Greek regions are divided in small municipalities which, as you have already guessed, have streets with the same name. And chaos begins.
Poor tourists armoured with a paper map or even some navigation program, wander around searching either for a number or a sign that does not exist. Because the name of the street is correct but the street isn’t. Their surprise become a dispare in cases of Eleftherios Venizelos. A famous dead Greek politician who looked like Lenin, and his name is in 1 out of 10 streets.
My advice to you all future, dear guests of my beautiful country is : Always ask in which municipality your street is locating.
